Corry Kooy lives and works in Schoonhoven. She took a drawing and painting training in England and attended various master classes in England and the Netherlands.

Corry makes figurative work, but she is not looking for a photographic representation of reality. "I prefer to work locally, because the movement and emotion of the moment I reach something different than when I take a picture and later I paint that." "Through my sketches I research my subjects.” In the polder where she grew up and still still lives, on holiday in Tuscany or on a journey to distant countries, each day there are times when Corry Kooy makes impressions of what she sees and experiences. "Often those moments are determined by the light. If the earth has warm colouring and you have such long shadows, then I stop and grab my sketchbook. Or when I suddenly see a mysterious shade of a palm tree on a closed door, I immediately want to convey that on canvas or paper."

Corry has a fascination with dance and music which she shows in pastels and oil paintings.

She also like to work following a model, especially in winter months when the weather does not allow to go out with the easel.
