Since his youth the artist Herman Smorenburg (1958)
Has been inspired by the magical touch of nature, the world of
mythology, fantasy and dream. His work is content-wise clearly influenced by nineteenth century romanticism, symbolism, but also by magical realism and contemporary fantastic realism.
The painting technique of Smorenburg is based on the classical method of layered
painting: a monochrome under painting using transparent
layers of which the colours obtain a higher intensity to
a high degree of realism which enables fine details.
For Smorenburg the sentimental value of the image remains essential. Technology is never an end in itself for him, but merely a means to get to imagination with eloquence.Smorenburg has participated in several national and international art fairs. Also, his work has been shown in the international "Dreamscapes" exhibition in Amsterdam (2009/2010) and the exhibition 'Grenzeloos Verbeelden” (2008) in Slot Zeist.
